Latest News Fumio Harashima has received the 2007 Lifetime Contribution to Factory Automation Award Dr. Fumio Harashima, President, Tokyo Denki University, Tokyo, Japan, has received the 2007 Lifetime Contribution to Factory Automation Award. The Award, founded and sponsored by the IES Technical Committee on Factory Automation, is presented to individuals in grateful recognition of their lifetime contribution to the factory and industrial automation field; for meritorious technical contribution and technical leadership. The Award presentation ceremony took place at the 33th Annual Conference of the Industrial Electronics Society in Taipei, Taiwan on November 7, 2007.

Fumio Harashima
Fumio Harashima was born in Tokyo in 1940. He has received B.S., and
M.S. and Ph.D. degrees all in Electrical Engineering from University of
Tokyo in 1962, 1964 and 1967, respectively. He was employed as Associate
Professor at Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo in
1967, and had been Professor from 1980 through 1998. He was Director of
the Institute from 1992 to 1995.He was President of Tokyo Metropolitan
Institute of Technology since April,1998 through March 2002. He is
currently Professor at Tokyo Denki University. He is also Visiting
Professor at KAIST(Korea) for 2002-2003. Dr. Harashima was elected
President of Tokyo Denki University with four year term starting June
15, 2004. Professor Harashima is Professor Emeritus of University of
Tokyo since April, 2000.
