Call for Volunteers The Technical Committee on Factory Automation, which has been an integral part of the IES activities since 1980s, although in times under different names, aims to provide essential information to those interested in the field of industrial automation. The Committee web site offers information on recent and upcoming technical events and presentations; call for papers; copies of important presentations by industry leaders; details of special sections and issues in the IEEE journals; information on books; downloadable copies of papers awarded best paper title; and many other resources. The Committee is also involved in active support of a number of flagship technical events of the I.E. Society to mention the Inter. Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA), the largest IEEE conference on industrial automation; Inter. Workshop on Factory Communication System (WFCS), the most important IEEE event with a focus on industrial networks; and a newly created Inter. Symposium on Industrial Embedded Systems (SIES). The Committee comprises twelve Sub-Committees to comprehensively cover the field of industrial and factory automation, headed by leading authorities from academia and industry in their respective areas. The success of the Committee’s activities, however, depends to a large extent on the active participation of the Members of the I.E. Society interested in this field. We are seeking volunteers to help with running Sub-Committees, to help with collecting and soliciting material for our web site, to help with organizing technical events, to help with organizing special sessions at our Society technical events, to organize special sections in our Transactions, and to share the success! If you are interested, please contact the respective Sub-Committee Chair(s), or myself. Richard Zurawski
